How the OTT platform is silently but, Surely killing you.
Social life went for a toss during the pandemic or were we just waiting for this to happen?.
The definition of socializing these days is spending time in a locked room, staring down at the screen and feeling stressed as to what to watch next. You can't call yourself an introvert if you’re spending time online surrounded by countless gadgets with no one around you.
Welcome to the world of new age addiction. The world found something that’s worse than “Drugs”, OTT platforms !!!. The platform widened and created a new horizon for new talent to spring forth, I won't deny that. The information is priceless and endless, I wont deny it. But it is creating a new generation of individuals whose main source of connectivity to the outside world is a screen. As sad as it may sound, It is the reality these days !!!
I see kids spending the formative, creative years of their life watching other kids play on Youtube instead of actually going out and getting their hands dirty. They are addicted to an extent that even though they live with the family, they are not a part of the family. I sometimes wonder if the concept of nuclear family will be replaced by micro or nano family sometime soon.
Carrying the phone 24*7 & staring down the screen for 70% of the time in a day absorbing content and info is good if new ideas and actions come out of it and if you’re feeling free from learning. Entertainment is eating up your creativity.
Getting addicted to the awesome, Mind boggling creative content is good if you’re using that as a learning platform to increase your social outreach in real life and if you’re making an attempt to grow in the process. But if you get hooked to it you will fall into the trap of their endless isle strategy. I.e, You start with the intent of checking the email but end up spending the next 2hrs scrolling useless content, feeling lost & confused at the end.
We are all falling for the trap of wanting to stay updated with what is new(in the outside world) and completely ignoring what’s happening inside us for years together and then there will come a day when you meltdown and you will start talking about mental health due to complete burnout.
For the reason that you ignored your inner calling for wanting to lead a meaningful purpose driven life which helps you smile everyday when you wake up early in the morning.
I admit, Even I had fallen into this trap of wanting to see every single movie that’s been released on planet earth. But, This will not only affect one’s own ability to think and grow but also help to induce self-inflicted guilt of loneliness if you don't know where to draw the line. There were times in my life where I preferred spending time on my ipad than actually talking to the person who is alive and craving to have a conversation with me.
Guys, get this right. If you do not value things and people when you have, You will never get those moments back ever !!! Ever !!! Ever !!!. I see this happening these days in everyone one's life including mine. Learn to cherish and celebrate life that's in front of your eyes instead of seeking happiness elsewhere in an unknow land.
Teens, Youngsters & adults falling into this whirlpool not knowing how to pull themselves back. By the time you realize what’s going on, you’d have reached a stage which’d need a miracle to pull yourself out of it.
It’s a good sign if the content you are consuming is helping you grow, feel free, and you take some tangible actions in your life. But, If this becomes a way of life and this becomes the first and last act of yours every single day before you to bed then it’s time for you to think where you'll be 10 years down the line.
Take out 10 - 15 minutes everyday before you go to sleep to think about what you did, disconnect yourself from all the nonsense & go to sleep in peace so that you are fresh and alive when you wake up. Make meditation a habit by will and wish. Agree?
